After spending some time at Wesleyan College, Patterson transferred to Georgia State University. When arriving, she immersed herself in the vibrant cultural scene of Atlanta, eager to explore its theaters and cultural offerings. “Georgia State provided me with invaluable experiences inside and outside the classroom,” Patterson reminisces. Patterson’s professors played a crucial role in shaping her journey, teaching her the importance of patience and focus as she balanced her academic pursuits with her passion for acting. “Given myself, goals and having a sense of longevity helped me to gain the resilience to keep bouncing back from the constant rejection in the industry,” she reflects. Graduating in 2007 with a degree in theater, she credits her time at GSU for laying the foundation for her successful career. Living downtown near Five Points provided her with a taste of urban life. It prepared her for the bustling energy of New York City where she got her Master of Fine Arts at New York University (NYU) from its graduate acting department.
Following her graduation from NYU, Carra launched her acting career, immersing herself in both stage and screen productions. In 2017, she garnered acclaim for her portrayal of Rena at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in the play “Jitney,” while also showcasing her versatility in notable projects such as the film “Straight Outta Compton” and the television show “Bloodline.” Her performances captivated audiences and established her as a rising talent in the entertainment industry.

As Officer Kaya, Patterson embodies a character marked by resilience, intelligence, and quiet strength. “Kaya is a bit of an underdog… underestimated in different ways,” Patterson explains. Yet, through her nuanced portrayal, Patterson infuses the character with depth and complexity, challenging stereotypes, and defying expectations. “At the end of the day, just because people brush you off or underestimate you, it does not diminish your power,” she asserts.
